Nagpur Diaries -That Old Woman

That Old Woman

The old woman who often met them at evening right at the front of main gate of the society and outside a near by wine bar when he with his friends  used to go for a walk after the dinner. She is wearing a thick glass spectacle that defines her vision problem ,her torn clothes that he think that she never changed since from the ages , her broken slipper , her glass bangles of green color on her left arm and sunken eyes in the sockets.

The old woman with her hawks eye   collect the crystal bottles of beer, brandy and   whisky, the disposal glasses which the people throw in the drains and on roadside who come from far away places  at evening time after their daily duty routines to drink here. Especially the bottles of Vodka sell on a high value.
She  collect the waste material and made her earning. After  filling two little white bags she goes to her home and on the way she sits on a big stone out side the main-gate of Ganga Apartments as she is  in an old age that she can’t walk long distances in a run. She is a widow , she told him that her husband has been died many years  before  and left her with  a son and a widow daughter. She told Him that Her husband  was a drunkard . Her daughter is working in on a private contract to sweep the railway platform . This is the only way of income by which she is making her daily bread .Also he saw a bangi person who is always drunk was swimming in the stinky foul water of the drain fishing out the thrown wine  bottles, some tin waste products   and cardboard , paper thrown in the garbage dumps to get a bottle of Desi wine in the evening . These people have  nothing to loose, they only live for drinks.
